Hi… My name is Birgit.
I grew up in a home with fiber artists. Both grandmothers taught traditional handiwork (embroidery, quilting, crewel embroidery, smocking, rug hooking, knitting, crochet, tatting, etc.) My mother was a professional seamstress involved in tailoring, dressmaking, and drapery work. With that background, I took an early interest in fiber arts. I graduated from Vermont College with a degree in art therapy and art education. I spent many years in the 80’s traveling the country teaching design and fiber art techniques that I developed, teaching at workshops, seminars and trade shows.
I took a break in teaching on the road to care for family members and is once again taking my talents and interests on the road. My current fiber art passions run in two directions. One is Quiltustration – techniques used to combine illustrations using ink and markers with thread painting on quilts. The other, Mandala Design – using of several innovative and traditional techniques used to make “quilts in a circle”. I’m available for teaching these techniques.
My award winning work has been exhibited throughout the United States and beyond.
